Chapter History

On August 28, 1993 members of two area STAR TREK fan clubs were brought together as the fledgling Starfleet International chapter, Shuttle Cathark, off of the USS Excalibur in Jacksonville, FL.

These charter members met in a local comic book store and began to get involved in the community. Over the next two years the Shuttle Cathark would make visits to the Victory Children's Home, Hibiscus House, were part of the "Jupiter Crash Party" at the Loxahatchee Historical Museum, collected donations for White Dove, held numerous recruiting drives, hosted a "STAR TREK:NEXT GENERATION" end-of-series party raising money and awareness for the Childrens' Home Society of Florida and capped off their time as a shuttle with a "STAR TREK:GENERATIONS" premier toy drive for the Martin County Boys and Girls Club, which took in over $200 worth of donations.

On February 11, 1995 the chapter was "commissioned" by Starfleet as the USS Gettsyburg. The membership quickly voted on an name and class change. On July 2, 1995, our chapter was named the first Intrepid-class, STAR TREK:VOYAGER-style, ship in Starfleet known as the USS TRIDENT!

The "Crew" of the TRIDENT have excelled as model Starfleet members. The highlight of their rookie year was the establishment of and weekend-long fundraising car wash for the Oklahoma City Bomb Victims Fund. The chapter was responsible for raising $1,300 for victims and families of the bombing; this total was larger than amounts raised by any individual Starfleet chapter in Oklahoma City.

TRIDENT crew members have excelled on both the Regional and International level of Starfleet International holding positions as Chief of Operations, Medical Regional Division Chief, Vice Zone Coordinator and Regional Coordinator. Numerous members have taken courses offered by Starfleet Academy; most of those earning diplomas with honors. Currently .

The USS TRIDENT is always active; Away Teams to movies, Regional Summits, yearly Shore Leave road trips, Vulkons and activities with other ships in the area. The TRIDENT has developed a regular working relationship with the Hallstrom Planetarium at Indian River Community College and the Treasure Coast Food Bank. We have colledcted school clothes for children in crisis and bought blocks of tickets for these same kids to go see STAR WARS. Regular yard sales have raised funds for the chapter treasury and to supply text books for an area high school teacher's course on comic books. And there's always a cookout, party or convention to attend....
